Across the many sisters of sweet gum-producing myrrh trees, these resins are used to maintain a state of enlightenment in addition to clearing negative energy and assisting to shift barriers to clear insight. The particular properties of Opoponax makes it well suited to supporting divination, necromancy and for use when dealing with the forces of the Underworld.
Opoponax resin has had some occasional use in herbal folk medicine, mostly as an antispasmodic, deobstruent, remedy for hysteria and to sharpen the senses. It was reportedly also used as an emmenagogue though there is little evidence to support this particular use today instead being reserved most commonly for aromatherapy, perfume and incense.

HOW TO BURN
Resins will not burn on their own, they will require heat from either an oil burner or charcoal disk.
▵ using an oil burner releases much more of the true aroma of the resin than charcoal disks and also creates far less smoke. Place a piece of foil in the well of your oil burner and lay the resin on top; this prevents lots of mess and cleaning after use. Alternatively, pour a small amount of light vegetable oil such as olive or sunflower into the well of your oil burner (depending on the size of your burner, keep the oil under halfway up the well) and place the resin in the oil
▿ Never leave an oil burner un-attended. Keep out of reach of children.
▵ Fill your charcoal burner 3/4 full with sand or rocks to absorb some of the heat. Then place your burner on a heat resistant surface. Using tongs to hold the charcoal tablet, light it following the instructions provided with your charcoal. Place the hot charcoal onto the bed of sand inside your charcoal burner and allow the charcoal 5-15 minutes to fully come to temperature, indicated by a layer of ash forming on the tablet before carefully adding the desired quantity of resin to the top of the hot disk.
▿ Never leave a charcoal burner un-attended. Keep out of reach of children.
