Behind the name...
Elysium, the paradisiacal spirit-field of Greek lore wherein the shades of the blessed dead dwelt without strife, is thought to originate in a word meaning 'to be deeply stirred from joy'. These ethereal meadows were described as possessing curious metaphysical properties, being both a source of bliss but also existing 'in no fixed place''.
